Newsletter April/May 2025

Hi Members.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter break and had plenty of chocolate and hot cross buns.

Our thoughts go to those Australian and New Zealand men who lost their lives during World War 1. So many lives lost.  Rest in Peace.

Quite a lot to get through in this edition of the newsletter.

First of all,  at the recent Annual General Meeting, a new Chairman and Vice Chairman were elected.  Tony Rowbotham is now Chairman of Narangba Bowls Club while Bob Meggitt was elected to the position of Vice President.  The new committee has great plans for the future of our club and members will be updated regularly.  Current Committee now is Tony Rowbotham, Bob Meggitt,  Alan Stephenson, (Treasurer), Robyn Sutherland (Secretary) Jack Murauer (Providor)  Perry Hansell (Green Director) with Lorna Elsmore and Julie Womersley as Committee members.  Thank you to Nev Womersley for his time on the committee.

Russell Reilly is now Liason Officer

Peter Collins –  Our IT guru.

Murder at the Bowlo.

 7.30pm to 10.30pm  Cost:  from $19.00

This is a ticketed performance and is part of the Moreton Bay See a Show Anywhere Festival.  Life is good in 1980s Queensland.  Except for the poor stiff on the green.  An interactive murder mystery where you can solve a murder and win a meat tray.  Those wishing to attend (and I hope we get as many there as possible) have to book on line The web site is:  anywhere.is/moretonbay

A light supper will be served

The Ladies day that was held recently was a great success. The theme was “come dressed as something starting with a “B” and many of the clubs joined in the spirit.

Our “kitchen” ladies joined in the fun and came as “three buxom beauties”

Thank you to our Sponsors “Traditional Funerals”

Just beautiful, aren’t they.

Happy volunteers who gave their time for a function run for Terry Young MP. Thank you for your assistance.

Thanks also to those volunteers who assisted at the recent Bunning’s BBQ.  Thank you to Sandy, Annette and Jenny for cutting up the onions.  Financially the BBQ was a great success.

CLUB NOTICES:

Single challenges are proving to be very popular.  Do you want to see if you can defeat a player on the Singles Challenges list.  All you have to do is advise your opponent and then arrange for a time and date to play.  You will also have to arrange for a marker to be present.

Recent challenges were as follows;

T. Robbotham d Tony Smith

A.Luck d  R Luck

Tony Rowbotham then defeated R Reilly

B Meggitt  d  Deb Freeman

Club Singles Championship:  Men and Ladies  have been completed.   There were so many excellent rounds of bowling with the eventual winners being Mary O,Sheafor the Ladies and Des Baglin winning the Men’s final.  It was very pleasing to see so many club members attending as spectators

Mixed pairs has now started.  Good luck to all bowlers entered in the competition.

Other Club Championships will be played on various dates throughout the year, so please ensure you read the Noticeboards.

Scroungers on a Wednesday has now been completed.  Once again,  great bowls were played.

Pennant season will soon be here.

A general meeting has been called for 3rd May commencing at 11.30am.  This meeting is to discuss the club’s pennant season and selectors.  It would be appreciated if those interested in playing pennants could attend.  Saturday bowls will commence at 1pm after the meeting.

Greenkeeper’s Report.

Helpers are still required to assist in sweeping and doing other maintenance on the green.

Re: Damage to green due to “dumping”

In the previous newsletter, it was mentioned that some of our bowlers would have to seriously consider learning to use a “bowling arm” as the green is getting too damaged by those dumping their bowls due to mainly health reasons.

Are there any bowlers who have bowling arms that they are no longer using and perhaps could donate them to the club.  They would be gratefully accepted.

Consideration is being given to the purchasing of a two new bowling arms but the cost is quite high.

Name Badges:  Should you require a name badge the procedure is really simple.  There is a  form hanging on the noticeboard – this can be filled out and then hand it, with your money to Jack, Alan, or whoever is at the bar, and they will organise for it  to be ordered  and have it returned to you asap or when you  next play (ask at the bar)

Have you noticed that there now two disabled parking areas for those needing them.  Please do not park there if you are not disabled.  Thank you.

MINUTES/NOTICES

🚙 Safe travelling to all  members about to embark or who are on their travels,

Come back safely.

Sorry, but I need to vent.

I experienced the WORST customer service today at a local store. I do not wish to name the store because I am not sure how I am going to proceed.  Yesterday I purchased something from this store. I paid cash for it and took it home and found out it did not work.  So today, less than 24 hours later, I took it back to the store and asked if I could get a refund.  The girl working at the store told me “NO” even though I still had the receipt.  I asked if I could get a replacement instead then.  Again this person told me “NO”.  I asked to talk to the Manager now as I am really not happy and I explained the situation.  The manager just smiled and told me to my face that I was “OUT OF LUCK’.  No refund. No FREE replacement.  Grrrrr.  I tell you what …I am never buying another lottery ticket from there again.

My memory is so terrible these days that I had to change my password to “Incorrect”  Now I get a reminder “Your password is Incorrect” every time I enter it wrong!

My mum has decided that instead of calling her bathroom John, she would call her bathroom Jim.  She says it sounds better to say I am going to the Jim first thing every morning instead of  I am going to the John.

Love this one:

Boss: Do you believe in life after death.

Employee:  Certainly not! There’s no proof of it

Boss: Well there is now.  After you left early yesterday to go to your uncle’s funeral, he came here looking for you.

(Ha ha ha ha )
